Building a Brand
My wife and I started Dodo Tees as a creative outlet for our shared love of illustration. I design original concepts in-house, turning everyday moments like overheard one-liners, spirited game nights, Detroit energy, and customer ideas into bold, expressive graphics that feel personal to wear. I’m drawn to the constraint of the canvas, saying something memorable with only a few shapes, colors, and words, and I sharpened my craft by building fresh designs on a steady cadence. Along the way, I developed a strong eye for production details like print readability, ink coverage, fabric hand-feel, and fit, because the best t-shirt design pairs a strong idea with something people genuinely want to wear. As we grew, we hired a small team to support areas like writing and day-to-day operations, which let me stay focused on concept, illustration, and quality.

DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION
When we invested in a direct-to-garment printer, it shifted my work from purely designing to owning the full production process, and it pushed me to refine every detail that affects the final garment. I built a repeatable workflow that started with artwork optimized for print, then moved through color testing, pretreatment control, curing standards, and wash testing to confirm consistency and durability. Having the printer in-house let me iterate quickly, troubleshoot issues at the source, and tighten quality across the entire pipeline, from file prep to the finished shirt. That experience strengthened both my design judgment and my production discipline, and it deepened my appreciation for how thoughtful craft turns a strong graphic into something people actually enjoy wearing.
